Monday

The opening day started with the Headmistress's Ina Gaiķe’s speech where she wished everybody a happy and a creative week. We gave a musical and heartfelt welcome to our guests courtesy of our school ensemble lead by Ilga Šķendere.

Our schools graduate student Inese Suija-Markova introduced us to Latvija’s nature,

municipality’s plans regarding natural resources, their usage, energy efficiency.

The project participants had prepared presentations about recycling and how Latvians and what kids all around the world do to stay healthy and what they should improve. We talked about what our schools and municipalities do to teach students on a healthy diet and correct exercise. In the afternoon we introduced students to Cesis and took a bunch of lovely photos.

Tuesday

Tuesday started with a visit to The Institute of Environmental Solutions. There we were given a presentation that was about developing solutions to sustain natural resources using the latest technology like drones and sensors, knowledge and creativity.

After that we visited The House of Bread to learn about traditional Lativan homemade bun baking. We also had the wonderful opportunity to bake some buns ourself. During lunch we tasted our self made buns and other traditional Latvian foods.

In the afternoon we engaged in some Latvian winter activities with the last snow. We had some snowball fights and overall had a great evening in Cesis

Wednesday

During the visit we explored our capital city Riga. We started with some sightseeing in Old Riga. We had an orienteering game that took us to some notable and beautiful places in Old Riga presenting the cultural and architectural richness of Latvia and its contribution to the European Cultural heritage.

After that we split into 2 groups. One group went to the Occupation museum and learned about our people’s life and history during the Soviet times. The other group went to the Occupation museum and got to see a lot of interesting things and pieces of history. We were shown guns and other tools that were used in the first and second World War which showcased what our Latvian soldiers used and what their lives were like during the war.

After the museums on our way to mall “‘Akropole”  we drove past some notable houses made with Art Nouveau style and in the mall we did some light shopping and returned back to Cēsis.

Thursday

Thursday started with a trip to Daibes where we visited the Nature and Technology park “Urda”. There we again split into two groups. Both groups were taken on a tour around the park and shown how the workers manage the waste and what technology they use. The rest of the tour we did some light orienteering through the forest located in the park.

Afterwards we went back to Cesis, ate some lunch and headed to the Cesis medieval and new castle. There a guide showed us around and taught us how the people in medieval times lived, worked and defended the Cesis castle. We also got to see some old artifacts and memorabilia of Cesis.

In the evening we all went to school Pastariņi. There a performance was given by the school’s ensemble and folk dancers. All of the guests also had the opportunity to learn an old Latvian dance, eat some snacks and have a good time. We also congratulated Toti and Loreta on their 18th birthday.

Friday

And finally on the last day of activities we made Digital magazines and posters to reflect on all of the activities that we engaged in.

After lunch we visited the Youth House and learned about the role the youth have in Cesis and the impact they make on events in Cēsis.

The project ended with some quizzes and games about the week’s activities and all teachers and students were given certificates that confirm that they participated in the project Erasmus+  to Latvia.
